1954 Goldtop Under The Hammer

A 1954 Les Paul Goldtop thought to have been played by Rockabilly legend Carl Perkins went under the hammer yesterday

An extremely rare Gibson 1954 Les Paul Goldtop that's thought to have been played by guitar  hero Carl Perkins on his world-famous hit Blues Suede Shoes went to auction at JP Humbert Auctioneers yesterday.

Jonathan Humbert, of JP Humbert Auctioneers, told BBC Northamptonshire that the guitar could go for as much as £50,000.

JP Humbert told us that the sale of the Les Paul should be going through in the next few days although he could not reveal the sale price.

Goldtops have fetched over £40,000 in the past, and although the reserve was set at £5 – 8,000, the auction house hopes that overseas bidders may offer much more.
